Biocompatible Silicone Rubber

Feb. 23, 2006
Two biocompatible grades of silicone rubber reportedly give designers an economical alternative for extruded tubing used in medical fluid-delivery systems.

Tufel I elastomer, a onecomponent, ready-to-use, platinumcure silicone elastomer, is for tubing such as catheters and IV lines. Tufel III elastomer is a two-component, platinum-cure silicone elastomer that provides high resilience and elastic memory, as well as low hysteresis, for flow accuracy in peristaltic pump tubing. Both elastomers are also candidates for use in pharmaceutical production lines.
