A new line of IP68-rated cable-extension transducers (string pots) feature an aluminum or stainless-steel housing and up to 100 ft of molded electrical cable for submersible applications. The devices use a flexible cable on a spring-loaded spool to measure linear position. A transducer produces an electrical signal proportional to the length of the cable let out. The units are tested in a simulated pressure situation of 100 ft of water pressure for 2 hr using air as the fluid media. The string pots linear measurement range is 2 to 1,700 in. and rotary ranges from 18 to 200 turns. The units may be specified with potentiometer, 4-to-20-mA or 0-to-10-Vdc outputs.
