Controller For Single-Axis Applications

Feb. 17, 2005
The system includes a high-performance PWM drive operating at up to 7 A continuous, 60 V. Software commands provide diagnostics and programmable amplifier gains and let the drive be easily configured for brushless or brush motors.

The CDS-3310 single-axis controller and drive system provides precise control of a single-brush or brushless servomotor. It combines a programmable motion controller and 500-W drive in a single package, eliminating wiring between controller and drive. It includes PID compensation with notch filter and velocity/ acceleration feedforward, nonvolatile program memory with multitasking, uncommitted digital and analog I/O, and advanced motion modes such as electronic gearing and teach and playback. It also accepts differential encoder inputs up to 12 MHz, and provides dual-encoder inputs to accommodate electronic gearing and dual-loop applications.

The PWM switching frequency is 60 kHz and the amplifier offers protection against overvoltage, undervoltages, overcurrents, shortcircuits, and overtemperatures. An onboard dc-to-dc converter handles voltage inputs from a single 18 to 60-Vdc supply. The CDS-3310 includes a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port and up to eight controllers that can be networked. It is packaged in a 5.15 X 8.25-in. metal enclosure.
