Couplings for Engine-Test Benches

June 2, 2005
Highly flexible TOK couplings connect combustion engines to dynamometers for testing and evaluation.

The aluminum couplings are lightweight, self-centering, and backlash and maintenance free. The use of two flexible coupling elements gives low torsional stiffness. And stiffness is changeable by replacing the flexible elements. The design absorbs axial, radial, and angular misalignments.

Five different couplings are available in a variety of connection types including cardan shaft for standard applications, intermediate shaft for low stiffness, and a constant-velocity shaft for high-speed tests. The flanges can also be adapted to DIN or Spicer bolt patterns. TOK couplings can handle torques from 420 to 4,000 N-m and engine speeds from 7,000 to 10,000 rpm.
