Electrically Insulated Bearings

Sept. 27, 2007
Electrically insulated bearings protect against bearing damage caused by electrocorrosion — the passage of electrical current.

Insulating the bearings with silicon-nitride ceramic eliminates the need for additional electrical insulation at the end covers and provides a minimum 1,000Vac or Vdc breakdown voltage. For smaller bearings, silicon-nitride rolling elements can be used. The bearings are available with 80 to 400-mm outerring diameters.
