That represents almost 98% of the life-cycle cost of a motor. This is what led Baldor Electric Co., Fort Smith, Ark. (baldor.com), to develop and constantly upgrade its Super-E motors. They come in ratings from 1 to 1,500 hp and have more copper in their windings than most conventional motors. Laminations are premium-grade steel and the air gaps between the rotors and stators are precisely maintained. Engineers also minimized losses due to the fan and other sources.
