Flexible cable-carrying ducts

April 15, 2004
Robots and other moving machinery need hoses and cables to supply power, controls, and essentials.

But the cables need protection move, so igus Inc., East Providence, R.I. (www.igus.com ), added the Triflex R to line of Energy Chains, a line of flexible cable carriers. The modular "pipeline" uses balland-socket connections that provide multiaxis freedom of movement. The socket connections also put most of the Energy Chain's mass in the center, reducing acceleration forces. The tubular conduit can twist up to 360°/yard and provides the strength needed to support modern cables and hoses without using interior steel-support cables. The smooth outer surface lets it glide over machinery without catching or tilting.
