Medical-Grade Plastic

Feb. 3, 2005
PEEK-Classix, a medical-grade polyetheretherketone, is a U.S. Pharmacopoeia Class-VI thermoplastic and can withstand blood and tissue contact for less than 30 days.

Catheters, surgical instruments, analytical equipment, blood management, and drug-delivery systems are typical enduse examples. The material is available in black or white unfilled grades, as well as custom formulations with additives such as radiopaque fillers, fiber reinforcements, and a variety of pigments. The material has a good balance of strength, stiffness, and toughness, and is reportedly one of the most chemically resistant medical polymers.
