Product Spotlight: 16-bit ADCs Target Industrial Uses

July 10, 2008
The ±10-V, 16-bit ADS8519 and ADS8513 analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) have a low-power successive approximation register (SAR) converter with sample-and-hold, clock, reference, and a serial data interface.

The ADS8519 is specified at ±1.5 LSB maximum integral nonlinearity (INL), ±1 LSB maximum differential nonlinearity (DNL) at 16 bits, a 250-kHz sampling rate, and flexible input ranges that can be configured for ±10, ±5, 0 to 4, or 0 to 8 V. An on-chip 4.096-V reference and a flexible voltage serial interface can operate down to 1.65-V I/O for glueless connectivity to any TI DSP processor. The converter delivers dc performance with only 0.05% full-scale range gain error and 2 mV of bipolar zero error.

An upgrade to the ADS7813, the ADS8513 offers dc performance of ±2 LSB maximum INL, –1/+2 LSB maximum DNL, an 89-dB signal-to-noise ratio1 00-dB total harmonic distortion, and spurious- free dynamic range of 102 dB. The device's full-scale error drift is 0.2ppm/C and bipolar zero-error drift is 2.5ppm/C. Texas Instruments Inc., 12500 TI Blvd., Dallas, TX 75243, (972) 995-2011, www.ti.com
