Product Spotlight: Linear-Positioning Drives

Uhing Model RS linear drives now have five linear pitch settings and adjustable axial thrust

The Uhing Model RS linear drives now have five linear pitch settings and adjustable axial thrust. Users turn a thrust setscrew to increase or decrease pressure on the rolling-ring bearings, which raises or lowers side thrust. Thrust remains constant even if linear pitch changes. Likewise, adjusting thrust will not change linear pitch. Pitch may be specified at 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 or 0.5 times the shaft diameter. Changes to pitch require no regearing or adjustment to motor speed. Pitch is set by placing wedges between the bearings to hold them at a specific angle relative to the shaft. The angle determines linear pitch, which remains constant regardless of motor speed.

The drives come in seven sizes for 10 to 60-mm shaft diameters. The threadless driveshaft eliminates trapped debris for jam-free operation. The zero-backlash drives achieve linear speeds up to 5 fps over distances of 13 ft with axial thrust up to 500 lb.
