Product Spotlight: Sensors Use Time-Of-Flight To Gauge Long Distances

Feb. 21, 2008
S80 Time-of-Flight (TOF) Class 2 laser-distance sensors detect objects as small as 0.4 mm and have a response time of 1 msec.

The sensors employ TOF technology — the measurement of time between emitting and receiving laser-light pulses. The time measurement is then converted to a distance measurement. This technology lets the sensors makes accurate distance measurements as far as 7 m away. Each sensor has two pnp or npn outputs, a scalable 4 to 20-mA output, and an RS-485 serial interface for remote monitoring and settings.
