Sound-Damping, Glass-Mat Composite

AcoustiMax substrate, a new lightweight glass-mat composite for vehicle interiors, reportedly provides improved structural and acoustical properties in applications such as headliners, trunk liners, door modules, seat backs, and package trays.

The composite is said to have up to 45% better isotropic properties for higher structural rigidity. It also reportedly absorbs 20% more sound compared with competitive materials and, thus, improves interior automotive acoustics. It has high lofting properties, so it molds parts with varying thickness in one operation. The 800 to 1,600 gm/m2 substrates feature 8 to 16 mm-thick cores and come in various widths, as well as with or without surface film and scrims.
