String Pot Handles Wet, Outdoor Environments

Sept. 8, 2009
The SR1E string pot withstands wet environments and rigorous outdoor applications.

The SR1E string pot withstands wet environments and rigorous outdoor applications. Its incremental encoder delivers a linear resolution of 101 pulses/in., while providing a full stroke linear measurement range of up to 125 in. or 3 m. The SR1E ships with an industry-standard push-pull encoder driver powered by 5 to 30 Vdc, although other resolutions and complimentary channels are available upon request from the factory. Additionally, each sensor ships with a four-pin, field installable, M12 connector though an optional 13-ft (4-m) cordset may be specified.

Measuring 8 × 4 × 4.75 in., the SR1E weighs 2.5 lb (1.3 kg) and has a polycarbonate, NEMA-6, IP67-rated enclosure for use in wet or dust-prone environments. Operating temperature ranges from −4 to 185°F (−20 to 85°C) with a maximum velocity of 80 ips (2 m/sec). The measuring cable is nylon-coated stainless steel with a diameter of 0.034 in. It can accept a maximum retraction acceleration of 10 g. Accuracy is ±1% full-scale output (FSO) with repeatability of ±0.5% FSO.
