Three New Styles Of Spud Wrenches

July 12, 2007
Nine new spud wrenches feature large openings (9/16 to 2 in.) and conical rather than flat handles that taper to a point at the end.

The handle lets workers align bolts, rivets, and flange holes. Handles range from 12 to 29 in. and provide high leverage. There are three styles of wrenches. Open-end wrenches are made for speed. Their offset heads let users easily and quickly reposition the tool while turning the fastener through its length. Box-end wrenches are for final tightening and loosening. They're less likely to slip than openend wrenches when under high stress. The adjustable wrench lets workers quickly switch from one size fastener to another without having to carry multiple wrenches. A black-oxide finish provides a nonslip grip and long wear.
