SolidWorks software includes a broad range of mechanical CAD, design validation, product-data management, and design-communication tools. New to 2010 is SustainabilityXpress, which lets users see how and where materials are produced, parts are manufactured, and products are used and discarded. A new Rapid Dimension tool appears when dimensions are inserted in drawing views. It automatically spaces dimensions evenly. In addition, the new MirrorComponent, which is part of the FeatureManager design tree, maintains the position of mirrored components relative to seed components, simplifying workflow and management. SolidWorks 2010 also simplifies the creation of complex sheet-metal designs. The new function lets users incorporate designs that include other sheet-metal or weldment parts. Also, users can create motion simulations based on events and actions, in addition to time. DS SolidWorks Corp., 300 Baker Ave., Concord, MA 01742, (800) 693-9000, www.solidworks.com
