Wireless Sensor Node

Sept. 1, 2005
A tiny wireless sensor and data-acquisition system called EmbedSense creates smart structures, materials, and machines.

The nodes can work with a variety of sensor types and can go in implants, on spinning machinery, and within composite materials. The units tolerate extreme g levels and high temperatures. Embed-Sense requires no batteries; an inductive link receives power from an external coil. It returns digital strain, temperature, and ID information. Applications range from monitoring the healing of the spine to testing strains and temperatures on jet-turbine engines.
