Machine Design Bracket Competition 2019: Round Three Voting Begins

March 22, 2019
We are already down to eight schools and taking it down to just the last four.

Voting was brisk in the second round and now we’re already into the third. But first, a recap:

No surprises in Group 1, at least not to me. MIT surged over Cornell (67% to 33%). The University of Wisconsin, a previous victor, continues to rack up wins. This one was close, however, as it beat Caltech 54% to 46%.

In Group 2, last year’s winner, Purdue, handily beat the University of California-Berkeley (67% to 33%). So, the winners keep winning. And the University of Michigan ran over the University of Pennsylvania (67% to 33%).

Group 3 had the biggest blowouts, with Stanford over Princeton (70% to 30%) and engineering powerhouse Georgia Tech’s Rambling Wrecks topping the University of Southern California 74% to 26%.

Group 4 had two of the tighter races. The University of Illinois scraped by the University of Texas (54% to 46%). And Virginia Tech took down Carnegie Mellon 53% to 47%.

Some of the voters got in on the action. Alvaro SW., Timothy Q., and Jesse L. each won a $50 gift card from Amazon; Jimmy M. scored an Apple Watch; and Daichi M. won a Tribit Wireless Bluetooth Speaker. But there are still plenty more fabulous gifts voters can win—the only catch being, you have to vote. Make your choices and mark your ballots by March 26.
