Five shows — Medical Design & Manufacturing West, WestPack, Electronics West, Pacific Design & Manufacturing, and the new Automation Technology Expo (ATX) West — will join up at the Plastec West Pavilion at the Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. The shows, which runs from Jan. 31 through Feb. 2, make up arguably the largest design and manufacturing event in the U.S.

ATX West will feature the latest advances in custom automation/assembly systems, robotics, control software, sensors, switches, and more. Two hundred of the industries' leading suppliers will take part. ATX West is sponsored by ATS Automation Tooling Systems and supported by Assembly magazine.

This year, the exposition will house a MicroNanoTec Pavilion for companies developing lifeenhancing medical devices and applications. Suppliers of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), micro components and subassemblies, nanoscale materials and components, and molecularanalysis instruments, among others, will showcase their wares.

Plastec West and MicroNanoTec bring to 10 the number of pavilions spread among the show's nearly 2,000 exhibitors. Pavilions include four for packaging — medical, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, cosmetic and personal care, and materials handling and logistics. Others are devoted to CAD and manufacturing, precision technology, information technology, and contract manufacturing.

The conference program consists of more than 20 sessions on topics such as packaging engineering, risk management, validation (packaging, process, software), advances in manufacturing, quality improvement, and corrective action and preventive action (CAPA).

Canon Communications LLC puts on the show. The company is at (310) 445-4200 and the show Web site is mdmwest.com
