Merging Bearing Companies

Oct. 25, 2007
Kaydon Corp., Ann Arbor, Mich., recently acquired Avon Bearings Corp., Avon, Ohio, which is expected to add approximately $30 million to Kaydon's fiscal 2008 sales.

Avon designs and manufactures high-precision, large-diameter turntable bearings, remanufactures bearings, and sells replacement bearings. While one of the markets Kaydon supplies is the growing wind energy market with the supply of pitch and yaw bearings.

"This acquisition is a step for Kaydon in accelerating growth in the bearings business," according to a Kaydon representative. "Avon will broaden our presence in offshore crane, construction, and steel markets for large diameter bearings, and also provide access to the refurbishment market where Avon has built a leadership position."
