How Toys Might Save the World

March 2, 2017
We have to show kids that it’s fun to do STEM activities and build things before the world starts telling them that robots are too complex or math is too difficult for them to understand.

Playing is imperative to creativity and curiosity. We all remember at least one favorite toy from our childhoods. For engineers, it is interesting to see how many of those toys were oriented around science or building. Since Heathkit Educational Systems filed for bankruptcy in 2012, it’s taken a few years to fill the gap. But STEM kits are back in full swing. At this year’s New York Toy Fair, there was a host of STEM and STEAM kits and other toys that engineers probably would have been drawn to as kids. This gallery will give you a small look at the show and some toys that might inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.
