This updated white paper includes new material on programming capabilities and specific applications. It describes how rotary position applications can benefit from touchless sensor technology and how it works. How some touchless devices can be user customized as well as applications the technology is found in are described too. Rotary touchless sensors are stationary position sensors that measure angle and use a magnetic position marker attached to an applications rotating part, e.g. a drive shaft. Touchless sensors offer distinct advantages over potentiometric track-and-wiper components and non-contact sensors. Touchless rotary sensors are the only option in some applications including through thin walls and those with low friction-torque requirements.
