The 0325DF measuring flange from Kistler Instrument Corp., Amherst, N.Y. (kistler.com) uses strain gages to calculate torque. The device preconditions signals, generating and wirelessly transmitting analog or digital output signals. It was developed as a short-range flange-to-flange device and its rotor is normally installed from the test-specimen side straight to the flange of the loading machine. The rotor also runs in the stator ring without mechanical bearings, so it escapes wear.
The device measures torque from 1,770 to 44,253 lbf-in. (200 to 5,000 Nm) at speeds to 15,000 rpm. Accuracy is 0.1%, but models accurate to 0.05% are available.
