10-Gbit Ethernet Switch

May 11, 2006
FocalPoint is a 10-Gbit Ethernet switch chip family with 200 ns of total latency.

The fully integrated switches are singlechip solutions that have as many as twenty-four 10-Gbit Ethernet ports. The low-latency switches are comparable to Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, and Myrinet for use as data-center interconnects in high-performance computing and storage systems. The chips are also a cost-effective backplane fabric for bladecomputing systems or AdvandedTCA and other networking systems.

Two versions of the FocalPoint family are available. The FM2224 contains 24 quad-SerDes 10-Gbit Ethernet interfaces that can be configured to operate in 10 or 2.5 Gbps and 10/100/1,000 modes. The FM2112 contains eight quad-SerDes 10-Gbit Ethernet interfaces, along with 16 single-SerDes interfaces that support 2.5 Gbps and 10/100/1,000 operating modes. The device will provide a solution for dense 2.5 and 1-Gbps applications.
