Reduce Encoder Cost While Gaining Functionality with 44-Turn Sensors

How to substantially reduce encoder cost while gaining functionality with 44-Turn multi-turn rotary position sensors—retaining count and position during power loss.

New technology reduces encoder costs and improves performance. Rotation counters are required for applications to count turns or measure angles greater than 360º. However low-cost multi-turn potentiometers can’t always meet user requirements for resolution and reliability. Alternatively, optical absolute encoders are too expensive for many applications.

Improved magnetoresistive technology is now available for 44-turn sensors to overcome these issues. This white paper describes how this technology works, new options and provides enhanced capability unobtainable from other technologies.
