The DLS Series of linear transmissions from Bishop-Wisecarver Corp., Pittsburg, Calif. (bwc.com), now includes ac geared motors and worm gearboxes. Customers can choose from motors rated to 1.1 kW and gearboxes with ratios from 5:1 to 75:1. This gives driving forces to 1,225 N and speeds to 2 m/sec.

(Speeds to 5 m/sec are possible with special motors). The new ac units can drive linear-motion devices end to end without needing more controls. Units can also be linked together with a customer's PLC for more complex point-to-point control. For more advanced control, gearboxes can be engineered into the drive and linked with a servo or stepper-motor system.
