Perkins Engines of Peterborough, England, and Ishikawajima Shibaura Machinery of Japan have dedicated a new engine manufacturing facility in Griffin, Ga. Called Perkins Shibaura Engines LLC, the operation will produce up to 60,000 engines annually.

The Griffin facility will produce Perkins 400 Series diesel engines. The two, three, and fourcylinder engines, in turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions, range from 10 to 60 bhp. The plant will also build the Caterpillar 3011C to 3024CT family of engines, which is based on the 400 Series.

The 400 Series diesels serve a variety of off-highway applications, including compact construction equipment, turf maintenance, aerial lifts, and generator sets. Because they were previously made exclusively in the U.K., the company expects the new facility to reduce lead times for North American OEMs.
