Industrial refrigeration specialist Dallas Automated Systems Inc. (DASi)(www.dallasautomation.com) has developed a modular refrigerator control that lets individual controllers be spread throughout a plant. This is different than usual refrigeration-control systems that generally sit in one area, as in the engine room, says DASi. The new system is said to be small, rugged, and network ready; each controller handles some I/O. Opto 22, Temecula, Calif. (www.opto22.com), supplies the base of the new design.

The modules connect via running CAT5 cable. The system enclosures and touchscreen MMI are frost, wind, and wash-down proof. Each module has a built-in Ethernet port and IP address to ease setup. Plant managers can access the system remotely via modem, Web browser, or PDAs.

The new system was recently installed at Standard Meat Co., Dallas.
