Most powerful Audi to land on U.S. shores

May 22, 2003

Inspired by the Le Mans-winning R8 race car, the Audi RS 6 will come to the U.S. in July. The sports sedan is produced by quattro GmbH, the high-performance division of Audi AG, and is its first U.S. market model. It features a modified Audi 4.2-liter, biturbo V8 that produces 450 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The RS 6 is said to hit 60 mph in just 4.6 sec and tops out at 155 mph.

The sports sedan carries an active suspension system, dynamic ride control (DRC), that uses diagonally connected, hydraulically dampened shocks. Compared to the A6, the suspension sits 25-mm lower, and shocks have 40% more compression damping. Also, the RS 6 has a 30% stiffer spring rate and carries larger stabilizer bars.

Standard features include a five-speed automatic with Tiptronic; 18-in. cast-aluminum wheels wrapped with performance tires; and an in-dash six-disc CD/radio setup with Bose 200-W speakers and subwoofer. The price for all this luxury? $82,700. Perhaps you can park it next to your $350,000 Maybach.
