Summary

Many technologies rely on electric discharge phenomena, including consumer electronics, medical devices, and high-voltage power systems. During product development, it is highly beneficial to simulate electrostatic discharges (ESD), lightning-induced electromagnetic pulses, and other related events.

Simulation helps engineers understand underlying processes and reduce costs associated with experimental testing and prototyping. In addition, simulation results can help engineers find solutions for mitigating harmful effects, such as unintended arcing and electric discharge, which is vital for ensuring the safety, reliability, and longevity of electrical systems. Simulation can also be used to find solutions for utilizing the powerful effects electric discharge offers for surface treatment, sterilization, pollution control, and precision material processing.

The Electric Discharge Module, an add-on to the COMSOL Multiphysics® software platform, can be used to analyze the behavior of various electric discharges in gases, liquids, and solid dielectrics. For instance, there is functionality that makes it possible to efficiently and accurately analyze streamer, corona, dielectric barrier, and arc discharges. In addition, the module integrates seamlessly with other COMSOL products — such as those for electromagnetics, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics — enabling comprehensive multiphysics analyses.

Join us for this webinar to get an introduction to the modeling and simulation capabilities of the Electric Discharge Module. You will learn about various applications that can be modeled as well as the specialized functionality that can aid in product development. The presentation will also include a demonstration of how to set up and solve a model.
