Standard DIN-size PID temperature and process controllers are used in an extremely wide range of industrial and commercial applications. They are, however, tedious to set up, operate and troubleshoot. What can machine builders do to make this important feature of their products easier to use? Operator interface terminals and PC software are two approaches to improving the user experience, both of which come with their own limitations and challenges. A new generation of PID controllers paired with mobile apps running on user’s own smart phones and tablets is removing the obstacles to improving the user’s experience.
