Festo Offers Components for Intralogistics Motion Automation

March 14, 2024
The company’s lineup includes components for pushing/sorting, gripping/picking and lifting/conveying, as well as a 7th axis solution for bin picking.

Festo offers a range of electric and pneumatic components for intralogistics motion automation. One of the highlights is the integration of cobots from various manufacturers in a 7th-axis solution designed for efficient bin picking. This approach is to allow for more flexibility and productivity in robotic systems used in distribution centers and facilities, streamlining operations and reducing material handling errors.

The company’s range of solutions include:

  • Use of 7th-axis robots
  • Control over various equipment: adaptive grippers, vacuum solutions and linear actuators for a range of applications.
  • Electric axes and pneumatic components for pushing and sorting
  • Lifting, automation and connectivity.

7th-axis Robots

These robots move along electromechanical linear actuators and help with picking, placing, loading and unloading operations. By extending the reach of traditional 6-axis robots through the addition of a linear rail, smaller more cost-effective robots can be deployed that contribute to reduced acquisition costs and a more compact operational footprint.

Comprehensive Control

The Festo Motion Control Package (FMCP) complements the 7th-axis solution by providing seamless control over a range of equipment, including turntables, conveyors and automatic storage systems. Combined with adaptive grippers and vacuum solutions, this comprehensive package is designed for efficiency and adaptability in intralogistics applications.

Pushing and Sorting

For pushing and sorting, the Simplified Motion Series (SMS) electric axes deliver an alternative to pneumatics along with energy efficiency and data generation capabilities. For pneumatic applications, Festo’s DFSP stopper cylinder and the DNSU round-body cylinder caters to diverse performance requirements.

Lifting Operations, Streamlined Connectivity

For lifting operations, actuators, servo motors and servo drives form a package for precise z-axis motion. The integration of Festo’s remote and decentralized I/O platforms can reduce complexity and hardware costs while improving system connectivity and control for automation processes. A single IP address helps reduce hardware and installation costs and is a suitable platform for conveyor control.
