Mini Keyless Hub-to-Shaft Bushing Supplants Set Screws and Pins

Feb. 8, 2016
The Concentric Maxi Torque (CMT) bushing's locking-taper design enables a single setscrew to lock the low-taper angle-split bushing in place without cocking.

Connecting components to high-speed shafts requires fasteners with low inertia and few vibrations. At those higher speeds, component alignment, accuracy, holding ability, and runout also become more critical. However, no compact bushing existed for shafts less than an inch in diameter that could handle all of these demands.

This led Custom Machine & Tools Co.’s engineers to develop the keyless Concentric Maxi Torque (CMT) bushing. With its locking-taper design, a single setscrew can lock the low-taper angle-split bushing in place without cocking. The same screw also unlocks the connection, which allows users to reposition the bushing and component. The bushing applies uniform force along its full contact with the shaft.

Furthermore, the bushing can be detached, moved and reattached multiple times without damaging the shaft or losing holding torque. It comes in sizes to cover bores from 0.125 to 1.1875 in. with torque capacities from 35 to 3,500 in. lb. (4 to 410 Nm). Radial runout is less than 0.001 in. (0.026 mm).

The company wishes you to “gauge for yourself” regarding its CMT bushing when visiting its booth (no. 4212) at the ATX West Show, Feb. 9-11, Anaheim, Calif.
