Measurement Specialties’ 154 Series, which includes media isolated, piezoresistive silicon pressure sensors, has expanded. The 19mm sensors are housed in a 315L stainless steel package and are available in an ASTM Grade 2 CP titanium housing for harsh surroundings. Uses for the 154B have also increased from process controls, refrigeration and compressors, hydraulic controls and fresh water measurement, to medical equipment and harsher environments—like brackish and salt water.

154B’s headerless design allows for low pressure applications in which silicon die is attached “upside down” to the module. The O-ring mountable sensor is assimilated into OEM applications that have corrosive materials or harsh cleaning chemicals. Pressure ranges from 0 psi to 15 psi, up to 0 psi to 300 psi in gage reference format, and from 0 bar to 7 bar, up to 0 bar to 28 bar in absolute reference. Additionally, it features a pressure non-linearity of ±0.3%Span with an overload pressure 2X rated (up to 500 psi) and a burst pressure of 3X rated (up to 600 psi).

The compensated temperature range spans from -20°C to +85°C, and a typical zero pressure output of 100mV. A transfer of pressure from the sensing package diaphragm to the sensing element itself can be provided by silicon oil. The package has a ceramic substrate with laser-trimmed resistors attached to it, providing temperature compensation and offset correction. An added resistor adjusts an external differential amplifier and provides span to within ±1%.
