Electronic Design’s just released 2012 Annual Salary Survey Report features career advice, salary and compensation ranges, and insights into the full career lifecycle for the electronic design engineering profession. This year’s report also includes a snapshot of design engineers’ opinions on political issues impacting the profession.

The survey reveals a mixture of good and bad news for engineering professionals: The industry continues to slowly climb out of the great recession, so engineers enjoyed modest salary increases for the third year in a row. What’s more, nearly 30% say their company plans to increase the number of engineering jobs in the coming year, while only 12% see downsizing on the horizon. However, engineering professionals must work harder than ever to earn those slightly higher salaries, and report feeling more pressure to keep up with rapid technological advances.
