Data Theft an Evolving Concern for Manufacturers

May 22, 2023
Stealing your information is just one issue. It also can be changed in ways you can’t easily detect.

Machine Design has partnered with MxD to present this series to our audience in an effort to call greater attention to develop a stronger cybersecurity strategy.

In the sixth part of the series, MxD leaders take a look at the new challenges to data that go beyond simple theft to more subtle ways of compromising the critical data in your facility, and what you can do to prevent it.

The other parts of the MxD cybersecurity series can be found here.

Threat #6: Data Theft

It’s not just data breaches that manufacturers have to be concerned with today. In an age of tools such as AI and ChatGPT, the threats against data manipulation is a real concern.

“When we think of data theft, we have to extend our thinking about what it really means to steal something from an organization,” said Laura Élan, MxD’s senior director of cybersecurity. “Data can be removed, it can be copied and disseminated. It can be destroyed or changed, often in a way not quickly recognizable to the organization. Thieves can even steal actual hardware, like a computer.”
