Word just came in that Energy Micro in Oslo, Norway, is offering free samples to qualified engineers worldwide that want to test their latest, most efficient microcontroller (MCU) technology. There are no additional charges for shipment and they claim a lead time of only a few days.

The EFM32 series are low-energy MCUs based on the ARM Cortex-M3 series of processors. Currently, there are more than 240 variants in the line that encompasses members of the Gecko, Tiny Gecko, Leopard Gecko, and Giant Gecko families. The devices consume as little as 150µA/MHz in active mode and feature numerous energy-efficient peripherals, including an on-chip LCD controller, USB interface, and a low power yet autonomous sensor monitoring system named LESENSE. The LESENSE interface can be used even in deep sleep modes, needing only 1µA to enable an intelligent and conditional wake up of the MCU.

The offer includes a free version of their Simplicity Studio designers' suite. Simply go to http://www.energymicro.com/samples to request samples.
