A CNC cam grinder for hobbyists and professionals

The CNC Cam Grinder from Sherline Products, Vista, Calif. (www.sherline.com), gives designers and home hobbyists an economical way to turn out cams and other precision devices for miniature engines and prototypes. To keep it simple, the unit uses specially developed software that translates cam dimensions into g-code without the need for complicated calculations. And users can work from key dimensions pulled from accurately drawn plans or CAD drawings.

The grinder, which can hold blanks up to 9-in. long, includes a ½-hp motor, three dc stepper motors with manual handwheels, a diamond wheel dresser, and factory-installed coolant lines.

The Y axis has flexible way covers and there’s a laser-engraved degree collar on the spindle headstock. The grinder can be ordered alone ($3,500) or with a four-axis driver box and computer ($4,500).
