ABB Advances AI-Powered Flexley Mover with 3D Visual SLAM Navigation and AMR Studio Software

May 13, 2025
ABB’s fusion of AI vision and intuitive software in the Flexley Mover aims to enable safer, more scalable autonomous navigation.

ABB has upgraded its Flexley Mover MP604 model with advanced 3D visual simultaneous localization and mapping (Visual SLAM) technology and its intuitive AMR Studio programming software.

“ABB has perfected robot eyes, through 3D AI vision technology; hands, through advanced force-sensing, precision dexterity and machine learning; and independent mobility, through 3D mapping,” said Marc Segura, president of ABB Robotics. “Fusing these technologies gives our robots a complete and dynamic understanding of the world around them, enabling safer, more intelligent and autonomous operations for our customers across automotive, manufacturing and logistics.”

The AMR is engineered to handle a range of payloads, lifting and transporting materials across different industrial environments. Its AI-driven 3D Visual SLAM system allows the robot to accurately map its workspace to within 10 mm, generating and sharing navigation data securely with other robots in its fleet. This technology supports fully autonomous operation alongside human workers without the need for infrastructure modifications.

Market analysts at Industry Analytics Research & Consulting (ARC) project the AMR market will accelerate with a CAGR of 21.4%, reaching $14.4 billion by 2030.

In tandem with the hardware enhancements, ABB’s AMR Studio software simplifies the programming and fleet management of AMRs through a user-friendly graphical interface. This innovation reduces programming time by up to 20% and can cut overall commissioning cost by as much as 30%.

Looking ahead, ABB plans to continue integrating artificial intelligence, software and precision hardware to push the capabilities of AMRs even further. “We’re in a new era of robotics innovation,” Segura said. “Robots that can do more things, in more places, and do it faster, safer and smarter directly open the door to greater productivity and eliminate the need to invest in specialist skills or infrastructure. With our 50-year heritage as the original robotics innovator, we remain at the forefront of not just developing the latest technologies, but also engineering them for commercial use, at scale.”

ABB officially unveiled the P604 Visual SLAM and AMR Studio software at Automate in Booth 2632.
