Students from around the world, studying industrial design and engineering have been awarded $11,500 in scholarships for their submissions in the 2013 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. The scholarships were funded by the ET Foundation, Sapa Extrusions North America and Almag Aluminum Inc. Among the 13 students recognized for their designs, judged by industry professionals: Dominic Atibil took 1st place with a solar powered bulletin board; in 2nd place Jasnic Milan’s emergency LED light system; and a collapsible medical stretcher made 3rd place by Dajing Li. Some of the factors the panel of judges took into consideration: eco-friendliness, marketability, and how extrusion was applied—the process of creating objects out of materials into a fixed cross-sectional profile.
