Bearings that require a separate pressurized lubrication system need more space than self-lubricating types.

Bearings that require a separate pressurized lubrication system need more space than self-lubricating types. The relative space required at the actual load-support point is not clear because a pressurized bearing can be more compact than self-contained bearings at the load-support point.

For self-contained bearings, the sleeve bearing requires less radial space than a rolling-element bearing; however, the sleeve bearing needs slightly more axial space. Needle bearings require about as much space as journal bearings.
