Product Gallery: Versatile Motor Controllers and Drivers

May 19, 2017
When choosing a motor controller, engineers can consider its integration with existing systems and the motion and safety requirements of their application.

Motor controllers are an important component placed between motors and their power source.  A motor controller may include drivers that amplify current signals to sufficiently drive the motor and control its direction. They may also use high- and low-frequency capacitive filters to regulate voltage and ensure voltage spikes do not damage the motors or other components.

It is becoming increasingly common for controllers in industrial applications to control multiple motors for multi-axis movements. With this feature, more manufacturers are realizing the importance of intuitive software to program complex motion profiles. The controller's motion profiles are often programmed using a programmable logic computer (PLC). Here are a few examples of motor controllers and drivers being used for factory automation and other applications today.
