High-tech jobs unfazed by technology slump

    An analysis of employment and wages by the Georgia Institute of Technology shows the number of Georgia residents in high-tech, high-paying occupations has grown, despite a downturn in the technology industry that began in 2001.

    The reason for the apparent contradiction is a growing demand for highly skilled workers in organizations not traditionally considered "high tech." Researchers found that jobs requiring high levels of education grew 12% in Georgia from 2001 to 2003.
