Flame-retardant camouflage fabric may soon protect military helicopter pilots and armored vehicle crews.

fabric may soon protect military helicopter pilots and armored vehicle crews. The fabric is a blend of meta-aramid fiber and flame-retardant viscose rayon. It meets strict requirements for visual and infrared detection of military camouflage.

Also, the fabric maintains colorfastness as well as its infrared reflectance when exposed to light, multiple washings, and rubbing. The fabric is a joint venture between Kermel, a Canadian manufacturer of meta-aramid fibers for protective clothing, and DyStar, in Germany, a producer of textile dyes and pigment preparation.
