The number of job opportunities posted on the Web continues to grow by about 9% annually, based on figures for March accumulated by the Monster Employment Index. This made March the 14th consecutive month in which the number of listings has risen. For engineers, job listings in the mining, quarrying, oil, and gas-extraction industries climbed 68%, compared to last year, while jobs in the utility industries jumped 35%.

The Index showed an increase in job listings for all 28 U. S. metro areas. But the most significant upticks were in Detroit (51%), Philadelphia (40%), Chicago (29%), Cincinnati (28%), and Cleveland (23%).

Europe and India saw even greater increases in job postings than the U. S., registering 24% and 21%, respectively.
