SCHURTER FXP Fuse Holder is Designed for High-Power Applications

June 20, 2023
The FXP fuse holder for 6.3 × 32 fuse links was developed to meet the higher current ratings of the extended IEC standard 60127-6.

SCHURTER’s FXP closed fuse holder has increased power ratings for use in higher power applications with rated currents up to 25A at 500 VAC or 45A (UL) at 600V AC/DC.

The fuse holder’s key features include:

  • PC2 shock-safe category
  • front side panel mounting
  • soldered connection available on connection side
  • admissible ambient air temperature of -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C)
  • tin-plated copper alloy terminals.

Derating at High Ambient Temperatures

Designed for circuit protection, the FXP fuse holder is capable of handling high currents at elevated temperatures of 23°C (IEC) or 25°C (UL). If used in an application with temperatures above these IEC and UL ratings, the fuse holder’s capacity will decrease as temperatures rise. However, the fuse holder can achieve its maximum power rating of 4W at an ambient temperature of 50°C, which helps to ensure safety.

Setting New Standards

The company reports that the FXP fuse holder is the first of its type to comply with the upcoming IEC standard 60127-6 extension, which increases the rated current from a maximum 16A to 25A. Because the fuse holder is able to work with higher currents and temperatures, it is better able to meet the extended standard by not experiencing the power dissipation issues common with other fuse holders used in these conditions.

Made to be shock-safe, the FXP carries the 25A rating at 500 VAC and doubles the power acceptance rating from 4W to 8W, according to the company. Its compact size allows for easier integration in applications with limited space while meeting vibration and shock tests as well as being IP40 rated and salt-mist tested.

The fuse holders’ snap-in systems allow for easy assembly, but they can only be opened with tools, offering safe handling and tamper resistance. The FXP fuse holders are RoHS compliant and include CE, UKCA and REACH markings.
