A new miniature actuator designed for the miniature robotics and life-science markets, consists of a small dc servomotor coupled to a ball screw. Included in the assembly is a high-precision miniature 8-mmdiameter ball screw, a Faulhaber dc motor with graphite commutation, rotary encoder, and gearless coupling for high-speed, backlash-free positioning with high dynamic performance. This product is ideal for applications in miniature robotics and precision dispensing systems. The actuator comes in travels ranging from 10 to 300 mm, with resolution of 1 micron, speeds up to 120 mm/sec, and capable of peak axial loads to 800 N.
