The Thermowell Sensor Assemblies line protects temperature instruments from damage due to pressure and velocity in process systems, as well as viscous, abrasive, or corrosive materials. Each assembly consists of a connection head, spring fitting or nipple-union nipple, RTD or thermocouple, and the thermowell. Thermowells come in threaded, flanged, VanStone, socket weld, weld-in, and sanitary styles in hard-to-find materials other than stainless steel.

RTDs and thermocouples measure temperature, but vary in temperature range, tolerance, accuracy, interchangeability, and cost. RTDs measure predictable changes in electrical resistance of materials with changing temperatures. They use wire-wound or thin-film elements with a reference resistance of 100 œ at 32°F and operate in –328 to 1,112°F, depending on the elements used.

Thermocouples are required for some high vibration, shock, and higher temperature applications. Depending on the type and material, thermocouples operate in –328 to 2,300°F. These versions use J, K, T, and E thermocouples.

The Assemblies’ connection heads are available in cast iron, aluminum, or 316 stainless steel. They meet NEMA-4X requirements and provide a protected area for a terminal block or transmitter. Fittings are spring loaded or nipple union nipple in stainless or carbon steel.
