The MCD from maxon motors, a Swiss-based firm with U.S. headquarters in Fall River, Mass. (maxonmotorsusa.com), is a compact positioning drive with a fieldbus connection and a maximum output of 60 W. It uses a brushless maxon EC motor, digital encoder, and EPOS positioning controller to keep the price competitive. Connecting the unit directly to a CANopen bus or SPS controller reduces wiring. Several optically coupled inputs and outputs let sensors and events be evaluated directly in the drive. The drive programming uses EPOS Studio tool to comply with IEC 61131-3 Standard.
