Machine tools Dominate EMO 2001

This year's premier machine-tool event will be in Hannover, Germany, where more than 180,000 visitors are expected.

EMO, promoted as the largest trade show for machine and metalworking, returns to Hannover, Germany, Sept. 12 to 19. The biennial event rotates between Hannover, Milan, and Paris. In 1997, the last time the fair was held in Hannover, the event hosted more than 2,000 exhibitors and 180,000 attendees. EMO Hannover 2001 is expected to be even bigger, encompassing more than 2 million ft2 of exhibit space in 25 pavilions.

Exhibitions cover such topics as machine tools for cutting, forming, and eroding; abrasives, coolants, and lubricants; assembly and manipulation systems; CAD/CAM; industrial electronics, sensor technology, and diagnostics; industrial robots; material flow and warehousing; precision, diamond, and measuring tools; testing and measuring equipment; and welding, cutting, hardening, and heating equipment.

In addition to the exhibit floor, EMO Hannover 2001 offers special shows where attendees can learn more about the latest trends. The Innovative Metalworking show highlights environmentally compatible manufacturing, machine-tool safety, new drives and kinematics, lightweight construction and new materials, precision and measurement technology, and microproduction and microhandling technology. The IT Meets Metalworking program discusses how machine-tool and tool manufacturers, as well as their subsuppliers and customers, can benefit from information technology. The High Performance Cutting (HPC) in Mass Production show focuses on the HPC trend and the current state of the technology. The Process Chain is Running program demonstrates how state-of-the-art production technologies are combined in a practical process chain for product development, tool production, and injection molding. Particular focus is on the consistent flow of data.
