Polyamides get a foam diet

Technyl XCell 6.6 and 6 polyamides (PAs) from Rhodia North America, Cranbury, N.J., are now optimized for use with MuCell processing technology from Trexel Inc., Woburn Mass.

Recent preproduction molding trials show that the Technyl XCell 6.6 and 6 grades have good mechanical property performance with no compromise in the part's surface finish.


Technyl XCell 6.6 and 6 polyamides (PAs) from Rhodia North America, Cranbury, N.J., are now optimized for use with MuCell processing technology from Trexel Inc., Woburn Mass. The new grades are the first deliverables from Rhodia as part of an agreement with Trexel. The XCell grades are adapted from Technyl Star PAs and will serve in underhood applications such as rocker covers and air-intake manifolds. In combination with the MuCell microcellular foaming process, the XCell grades are 10% less dense and can mold thinwalled (3 to 4 mm) parts with less injection pressure. Parts made from XCell PAs have lower molded-in stress, good rigidity, and withstand high temperatures and impacts.
